Episode 2 — Cat Ballou

Susan’s movie pick of the week was 1965’s Cat Ballou, starring Jane Fonda. This has been on Killian’s watchlist for a while, he can’t remember how he came across it, but it’s been on his radar for a good few years.

Plot summary: A woman called Cat Ballou (Jane Fonda) returns home to her father’s farm, but soon discovers that his life is in danger when a killer (Lee Marvin) is hired to murder him. She recruits a gunman (also Lee Marvin) to protect her father, only to find out that he is more drunk than helpful. Will he be able to get his act together in time to save her father?

Susan’s thoughts:

I think we both lost interest halfway through the movie, probably right after Cat Ballou’s dad got shot. When it first started, it looked quite interesting, the music was good. It reminded me of old Shirley Temple and Disney vibes. But, especially after the halfway point, I did lose interest.

Killian’s thoughts:

I definitely lost interest part way through. It’s good for what it is but I think I got a bit bored. The songs were fine and the characters were funny, but there’s nothing else to write home about. I don’t think I loved it. I really like Western movies, especially old-school Western movies with Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin, but there’s just something about the light-hearted and musical elements that I…
